Adoption Is People

AI projects rarely fail on the technology. They fail because nobody changed how they work, nobody was consulted, or the problem was never defined.

In their words

Most AI projects don't fail because of the technology. They fail because of people.

C'est rarement un problème technologique. Parce que, bon, on est la race humaine et les gens en technologie habitués, c'est-à-dire les outils sont là. À mon sens, puis ce qu'on a vu sur le marché, c'est surtout l'adoption et beaucoup du change management.

Give a great AI tool to salespeople who weren't consulted, and they simply won't use it.

Guillaume Petitclerc
He gives an example of how a good AI tool fails when users were not involved from the start.

The best AI model in the world is useless if nobody changes how they work.

I'm often saying the best model in the world is useless if nobody use it or nobody change their process out of that. So sometimes I feel with new technologies coming in, people are so impressed by the technology itself that they forget the principle that has always been there and is still there, that there's no meaningful change without technology, people and process.

Stop running AI proofs of concept. Run proofs of value instead.

POCs are really popular in technology, but a proof of concept finishes with technology concepts. It's not necessarily creating value. So we prefer proof of value. And a proof of value, you might not even have the technology concept completely finalized.
Alexandre Guilbault
He describes why TELUS swapped proofs of concept for proofs of value.

Saying you're against AI shuts down the useful question: how, not if.

I don't think you can be like, oh, I'm against it. I'm against change. I'm against technology. And I think that this kind of behavior is detrimental to even having like constructive discussions about how rather than if.

Not every AI project should reach production, and that's normal.

We need to experiment things. We need to try things. And not everything that we do is going to go to production because sometimes we find out we don't have the data or the expectations are far from what we're getting.
